Dynaudio Connect and Hub: how is the signal transmitted to Xeo and Focus XD speakers?

What are the different resolutions and modes of transmission.

This article does not apply to Xeo 3 and Xeo 5 that need a Transmitter to work.

Connect in Multiroom mode (also applies to the Hub)

Physical setting: To set the Connect in Multiroom mode, move the switch on the bottom panel of the Connect to "Multiroom. The Hub only has one mode = Multiroom

Description of the transmission : Audio and Control Signals from Connect to speaker runs at a frequency based on Channel ID setting:

On Hub

A: 2.4 GHz

B: 5.2 GHz

C: 5.8 GHz

On Connect

A: 5.2 GHz, low channels

B: 5.2 GHz, high channels

C: 5.8 GHz

The actual frequency band used is automatically determined based on signal quality.

All 4 inputs are streamed simultaneously. This means that for instance Zone Red can play from input 1, while at the same time Zone Green plays from input 2.

One zone can include any number of speakers.

Focus XD: When used with Connect or Hub, both speakers theoretically act as Slaves – however, it is still recommended to set one speaker as Master and one as Slave, to leave open the option to use Direct In on the Master.

All incoming signals are converted to 16/48 in the Connect.

Connect in Hi-Res mode (does not work for Xeo 4 and Xeo6)

Physical setting: To set the Connect in Hi-Res mode, move the switch on the bottom panel of the Connect to "Hi-Res" position. The Hub can't be set to Hi-Res

Description of the transmission: Audio and Control Signals from Connect to speaker runs at a frequency based on Channel ID setting:

A: 5.2 GHz, low channels

B: 5.2 GHz, high channels

C: 5.8 GHz

The actual frequency band used is automatically determined based on signal quality.

Hi Res mode uses a special two-way sync to achieve high stability. This mode is fundamentally different from Multiroom mode: Only the selected input is transmitted, and only two speakers are supported.

Focus XD: When used with Connect or Hub, both speakers theoretically act as Slaves – however, it is still recommended to set one speaker as Master and one as Slave, to leave open the option to use Direct In on the Master.

All incoming signals are converted to 24/96 in the Connect.
