Focus: automatically waking up after being set into standby. No audio signal playing.
Focus are automatically switching on even if manually set into standby mode - Connected via optical cable to a TV set also in standby.
Cause
On its digital inputs, The Focus wakes up when receiving a digital carrier signal (bi-phase, square signal at sample frequency – with or without audio data) on the Toslink input. This “carrier” is present even when no audio is played back and some TV models will send it even when they are in standby.
To determine if your TV transmits a signal while in standby mode, check the TV's settings or consult the user manual for information on digital output behavior in this state.
An easy method to discover it:
- Set the TV into standby mode.
- Unplug the Toslink cable from the Focus, ensuring it remains connected to the TV's Toslink output. If you observe a red light illuminating the Toslink connector, this indicates that the TV is indeed transmitting a digital carrier signal.
Is there a solution?
The ability to resolve this issue varies depending on the specific brand and model of your TV, as well as the available settings.
Based on our experience sofar:
- PANASONIC TVs feature an option labeled "App TV remote." Disabling this setting will solve it.
