At Dynaudio, our mission with Focus has always been to create a future-proof product that adapts to new features and technologies. Designed for flexibility and easy upgrades, Focus ensures that users can enjoy an ever-evolving experience through seamless firmware updates.

This year's High End Show in 2025 marks a very special day for our Focus mission, because Qobuz has just announced and introduced their Qobuz Connect service to the market – a service which is entirely compatible with all three models of the Focus series from the time of announcement.

All you need to get started with Qobuz Connect is version 1.2.120 of our firmware for your Focus speaker. This update not only delivers this exciting new integration from Qobuz, but also introduces a host of other enhanced functionalities, which we will explain in a short but detailed guide below.

Update 1.2.120 - How to install it & feature overview

Dynaudio Focus is a speaker series that functions as a complete music system. Everything you need to play music is integrated directly into the speaker cabinets themselves. It's a very flexible platform that allows over-the-air updates, automatically installing new features onto the loudspeaker, as and when we develop them.

With that in mind, the new features that we are going to talk about here should already have been installed onto your Focus speaker, but if not it's important that you update your Dynaudio app, and then inside the app make sure that the speaker has the latest firmware installed. This should happen automatically overnight if your speakers are connected to the internet, but if this is not the case, then you may have to do the install manually.

The new firmware introduces several very exciting features to the Focus series, many of which provide added flexibility in set up and usage of the speakers.

Dynamic Bass Extension

One of the key features about the Focus speakers is what we call Dynamic Bass Extension. It basically means that we can extend the bass into lower frequencies when you're not playing loud. Now we give you the option to turn that feature on and off based on your personal preference.

More radio presets

We have also updated the radio presets, so that there are now 10 presets selectable inside the app, instead of just the three that we had before. The first three ones will still be available on the remote control.

Balance Adjustment

We have also introduced a balance adjustment, which means that you can now adjust for asymmetrical listening positions or different placements of the speakers inside your room, optimising the sound for that particular listening position. A secondary balance adjustment allows you to compensate for analog inputs that have asymmetrical left and right balance.

If you have a record player or something similar that has slightly a higher volume in one channel, for example, you can now compensate for that within the Focus system.

Maximum Volume setting

We have added a Maximum Volume setting, so that inside the app you can select a max volume, so that a you don't accidentally increase the volume too high.

Input-specific settings

Focus already has settings for fixed volume and automatic wake up. With the new firmware, however, you can select these specifically for each input. This makes it easier to customise your setup to match your specific needs.

Connection status indicators

We have also introduced some settings that make it easier to troubleshoot potential connection issues, such as an indication of the WiSA connection status and the Wi-Fi connection status and also the connection status of the Bluetooth remote. Further to that point, you can now specifically pair or unpair the Bluetooth remote from inside the Dynaudio app.

Subwoofer management

We have also introduced a huge update to the subwoofer management system on Focus. One of the exciting new features about this the distance compensation setting, which allows you to enter the distance between yourself, and each of the speakers, and the subwoofer directly into the Dynaudio app. The speaker then automatically adds the appropriate delay to time align the speakers and the subwoofer, giving the best possible performance.

The distance compensation also works even if you don't have a subwoofer, allowing you to compensate for off-center listening positions, moving the imaging position into place between the two speakers even though you are sitting off-center. Together with the balance control that means you can tune the sound of the stereo imaging with great precision, even though you are not sitting in the ideal listening position.

Subwoofer presets

One of the most important improvements with regards to subwoofers, is that we have introduced presets. This means, that if you own a Dynaudio subwoofer, a Sub 3, a Sub 6 or Sub 600 connected to the DAN Audio Focus, you simply select which subwoofer you have in the app, whereby the app automatically sets the gain and the phase of the subwoofer output to match that specific subwoofer. This combined with the aforementioned distance compensation allows for very precise alignment between subwoofer and speaker.

If you have a third-party subwoofer you can also set these settings manually in the app.

Dirac Live for subwoofers

Another feature of the firmware update is the integration of subwoofer calibration with the Dirac Live room correction feature. To take advantage of this, you have to essentially set up the subwoofer first – preferably using the presets if you have a Dynaudio subwoofer – and then initiate the Dirac Live calibration. During the calibration, Dirac Live will prompt you to measure each speaker individually, as well as the subwoofer. Dirac Live then calibrates the subwoofer to work optimally together with the stereo speakers.

Dirac Live presets

The Focus speakers currently have six presets for Dirac Live. With this update, we are adding six extra presets specifically for when you are using a subwoofer. So if you have Dirac Live presets already in your speakers, they will be saved in your speakers. Once you add a subwoofer, you'll be able to select six new presets. So if you are switching between using your Focus speakers with and without a subwoofer, you can do so without having to delete the old presets.
