Stand Tall. Listen Deep. Master Wide.

Sure, certain plug-ins promise to ‘master’ your tracks in seconds, but nothing beats a real mastering engineer with golden ears – and armed with trustworthy speakers.

With the M5P Evidence, we continue our proud tradition of delivering high-end main monitor systems for professional recording, production and mastering engineers.

When mastering, it is of course paramount to be able to hear very precisely which parts of the final mix you need to adjust gently – as well as which parts to simple leave alone. The M5P Evidence farfield monitors offer the utmost audio resolution and precision due to a number of design-specific factors. Let’s take a look at some of the most significant features.

Dynaudio Directivity Control (DDC)

Dynaudio Directivity Control builds on a vertical, symmetrical drive unit array and an elaborate crossover topology, which gives you a very controlled sound radiation.

With two tweeters, two mid-range drivers and four woofers per speaker, each drive unit complements its counterpart with regard to frequency response and phase relationship in such a way that an immensely accurate and defined sound radiation characteristic is achieved. In fact, the energy radiated to your room’s floor and ceiling is reduced by approximately 75%, making the M5P far less dependent on the room and much less critical in positioning compared to other studio monitors.

Another always-critical factor is the low frequencies. To implement DDC in this frequency area, we positioned the woofer cabinets directly above and below the midrange and high frequency driver middle section. This gives you two acoustical advantages: First, it provides a more equally spread radiation of the lower frequencies into the room. And second, the four-woofer-design combines the diaphragm surface of a larger, conventional single-woofer design with the power, speed and control of four smaller single voice coil-magnet-assemblies. The result? These two immediate benefits simply add up to a very even sound distribution that reveals every sonic detail there is to discover in your source material.

To sum up, this means that a transition to an M5P monitor system is a smooth process. We all know that rooms are different and that changing main monitors is a major change in any mastering suite, but considering the significantly reduced impact from the floor and ceiling, the integration becomes much easier than usual, and you should be back in the mastering business in no time.

Top-Notch Components

In a super high-end monitor system of this caliber, we obviously use nothing but the very finest components. Let’s investigate…

We have relied on silk soft-dome tweeters for recreating high frequencies since the company was founded and continuously improved and perfected the soft-dome principle over the years. For the M5P Evidence, we use the highly acclaimed Esotar2 tweeters that require a time-consuming and labor-intensive manufacturing process where the fine fabric diaphragm is shaped into a dome and then treated with a specially formulated coating. As a further refinement, the tweeter’s aluminum voice coil is suspended in magnetic oil to increase power handling while also improving the dome’s excursion.

Moving on to the middle section, you will find that two drive units and two soft-dome tweeters are integrated in the solid, CNC-machined aluminum mid section. This choice of material and its specifically rounded sides ensures that you get a uniform and ultimately un-colored sound dispersion. The completely transparent reproduction of the highest frequencies simply gives you an airy, detailed and accurate listening experience. Further, looking behind the aluminum mid section’s own sub-enclosure, you will see that it is completely shielded from acoustic vibrations.

Similarly, to counteract any sonic resonance, a separate compartment isolates and provides the perfect mechanical and thermal environment for the carefully assembled, and close-tolerance selected, crossover components. In addition, the compartment is passively ventilated at the back so that the crossover components always remain within a safe operating temperature range – even at continuous high volume levels and during extreme transients. Oh, and the actual crossover components are of the highest possible grade and integrated on glass fibre-reinforced PCBs, using selected oxygen-free copper cables for the internal wiring. We didn’t cut any corners in the M5P Evidence design.

Adding it all together, all of these distinct design choices and super high-quality components contribute in delivering an extremely accurate sound reproduction that you can simply trust to speak nothing but the truth.
